Seminole County, FL
Seminole County Sheriff’s Office
When the Seminole County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office needs to quickly relay important safety information to hundreds or thousands of area citizens, data provided by InfoCode allows them to make those connections with ease.
Since 2003, InfoCode has provided the Sheriff’s Office in Seminole County – located between Orlando and Daytona Beach – with geographically coded and up-to-date phone numbers for residences and businesses in the area, data that is then used to blast voicemail messages to targeted neighborhoods in the case of emergency.
Bob Colbert, technical communications coordinator for the Sheriff’s Office, said InfoCode is a valuable partner.
“We’ve been doing business with InfoCode for five years, and their customer service has been outstanding,” he said. “They’ve always been extremely helpful, and if we’ve ever had a problem they’ll help us solve it quickly and enthusiastically. I really appreciate the proactive way they work with us to deliver what we need.”
Colbert said he receives quarterly updates from InfoCode, which means up-to-date phone records for approximately 118,000 homes and 19,500 businesses. The Sheriff’s Office then has the ability to notify particular neighborhoods in the county with critical information in the event of natural disasters such as hurricanes or floods, or even in the case of a missing person.
“We had an Alzheimer’s patient wander off once, and we sent voicemails to homes in the area,” Colbert said. “We then got a call back from someone who said the missing person was in their yard, looking lost. When you can use this data to help someone like that, that’s when you realize what it’s all about.”
Plymouth County
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) in Plymouth, Mass., first hired InfoCode in 2004. The department, which employs more than 700 professionals, is responsible for running the county correctional facility, ensuring the safety of county residents and delivering documents to the county court.
The communications department of the Sheriff’s Office serves as the liaison between sheriffs, paramedics and hospitals. Because of the number of calls it receives each day and the urgency of most of these calls, the PCSD contracted with InfoCode to provide a geographical coding program that allows the communications department to access telephone numbers related to a particular area on a map.
The PCSD frequently uses the data to inform the community about traffic re-routes, water service interruption, motor vehicle updates and mandatory water restrictions.
According to Nikki Callahan, office manager for the Field Services Division, when quick changes need to be made to the map data, the InfoCode customer service team is their lifeline to get the new information uploaded.
